What Is Unakite? 3 Reasons To Add This Gemstone to Your Wish List

read

Should you find yourself hunting for the perfect new crystal to add to your collection, don't hesitate to snatch up a piece of unakite. This mottled green and pink stone contains a bevy of healing properties you won't want to miss.

Unakite is associated with the sign of Scorpio in the zodiac and carries a unique set of healing properties. If you're thinking about turning over a new leaf or want to move stagnant energy in your chakras, unakite may help. It's a phenomenal stone for processing and integrating any repressed emotions from your past.

In this article, you'll learn how unakite gemstones are formed, where you can find them, and how you can use them for growth in all areas of your life.

What Is Unakite?

Sometimes referred to as unakite jasper, unakite stones are named for the Unakas mountain range on the border of Tennessee and North Carolina where they were first discovered. About 300-400 million years ago, hot water (more akin to a chemical cocktail) reacted with feldspar when they came into contact with each other. The calcium and iron in the feldspar created a green epidote. At the same time, potassium turned some of the rock pink, resulting in the characteristic pistachio green and blush pink coloring present in unakite gemstones.

Unakite stones rank between six and seven on the Mohs hardness scale. Because unakite ranks where it does on the Mohs scales, it’s often shaped into beads or cabochons, or carved into vases and other figurines. Aside from the Unakas Range in the United States, Brazil, China, Sierra Leone, South Africa, and Zimbabwe also have notable deposits of unakite.

Healing Properties of Unakite

This semi-precious stone is excellent for personal growth and crystal healing. Unakite is considered a stone of vision and is associated with opening your third eye chakra. It also helps in circulating the energy in your heart chakra.

The nurturing frequency of unakite gemstones can help you recognize and overcome what’s holding you back in life, allowing you to welcome a liberated version of yourself. Here are three ways you can work with the healing properties of unakite in your daily life.

1. Kick Bad Habits to the Curb

If you’ve ever tried to make a fresh start and put an end to bad habits, you know how challenging it can be. According to Robert Simmons and Naisha Ahsian’s book "The Book of Stones: Who They Are and What They Teach," unakite helps you gradually break the habits you’ve been trying to overcome. By easing into change, you’ll find it takes a little less work to stick to your intentions. A series of small steps toward a goal is often more sustainable than diving headfirst into something.

Maybe you're trying to cut back on coffee or save some extra money for a fun vacation or weekend getaway. But every time you try to get started, you struggle to find the resolve to keep it up or are hard on yourself if you fall off the wagon. Unakite's healing properties can lend a helping hand here too.

Aside from assisting in replacing a bad habit with a better one, unakite helps you cultivate more patience. You'll be compassionate and understanding with yourself, accepting that sometimes the road from where we are to where we want to be includes some detours along the way. Even when you feel your motivation starts to wane, unakite's healing energy gives you the inspiration to keep up with your objectives. Before you know it, you'll have replaced a negative habit with a positive one.

Think about adding red jasper or black obsidian to your crystal collection if you’d like more motivation to see your goals through.

2. Give Your Chakra System a Tune-Up

Like many healing crystals, you can use unakite to open your chakras and boost your energetic system. Pink and green are both linked with the heart chakra. As such, unakite's supportive energy nourishes this chakra center, helping you tap into waves of universal love. The joy that comes with having grace and respect for yourself spills over into other areas of your life. This compassion becomes increasingly important if you choose to work through emotional wounds from the past.

Besides working on your heart center, unakite is an excellent stone for working with your third eye chakra too. In her book, "The Encyclopedia of Crystals," Judy Hall shares how unakite balances and unites your emotional and spiritual lives. When you open your third eye chakra, you might pick up on more intuitive guidance than before. Or, perhaps you'll experience increased psychic visions or other hidden gifts you didn't know you had.

It's easy to use unakite crystals during your day. Start by finding a quiet space in your home where you can roll out your mat or relax in bed. Take a few deep breaths to calm and center yourself. Try placing a unakite crystal on your third eye or heart center to move the energy in these areas. You can also try wearing a unakite bracelet to keep its healing vibrations around you as you go about your day.

Try adding a quartz crystal like amethyst to further support your third eye or rose quartz to encourage more love and healing in your heart chakra.

3. Work Through Repressed Emotions

One of unakite's most robust healing properties involves its remarkable ability to help the wearer recognize and work through any repressed emotions. Simmons and Ahsian share how part of what makes unakite such a useful healing crystal is how it helps you to identify what needs healing in your life. Once you've sorted out what you'd like to work on, you've won half the battle.

It can feel foreign to let go and release what no longer serves a purpose in our life. Still, if we're genuinely ready to move past the things that hold us back and step into a new era of self discovery, we must rise to the occasion. Part of letting go involves processing old emotional wounds. Unakite's supportive and energetic qualities allow us to mitigate some of the upsetting feelings we've attached to past events.

If you're looking for another reason to motivate you in leaving the past behind, consider the well-documented connection between stress levels and health. Crystal healers believe holding onto anger and resentment can eventually cause disease in the body. Unakite healing crystals are thought to be one way to mitigate the damage done by these unhealed emotions.

Whenever you find yourself ready to embrace a new aspect of your life, it might be a good time to add a unakite crystal to your collection. Other healing stones you may find helpful include clear quartz to provide emotional support, cinnabar jasper for letting go, and citrine for inner growth.

Unakite healing crystals are excellent stones to work with when you have your heart set on making changes in your life and sticking with them. Whether you're wading through unprocessed emotions or would like extra support starting something new, unakite is one gemstone you'll want to have at the ready.

If you find yourself feeling pulled to explore unakite gemstones, trust that you're receiving intuitive guidance. This healing stone might be just what you need to recalibrate and harmonize your energy.
