India's love affair with gemstones goes back centuries when ancient mystics hunted gemstones in the rivers and passes of India to use in ritual ceremonies. They were believed to bring peace, healing, and protection to those who wore them.

Indian Gemstones Original Locations

A large and geographically varied country, India has many places where gemstones can be found. Three of our favorite hotspots for gemstones in India include:

Tamil Nadu

Several gems are found in the state of Tamil Nadu, the most notable being Cat's Eye, Ruby, Alexandrite, Emerald, Aquamarine, and Sapphire—all stalwarts of India's gemstone trade.

Chhattisgarh

Pinkish-red Ruby and yellow-green Alexandrite from India are found in the state of Chhattisgarh. Other gemstones mined here include Aquamarine, Tourmaline, Amethyst, Yellow Beryl, and Garnet. Kerala

This is where India's finest Cat's Eye and Alexandrite specimens are produced, alongside Aquamarine, Topaz, Ruby, and Sapphire.

Andhra Pradesh

For die-hard fans of Indian Ruby and Opal, the place to go is Andhra Pradesh.
