How to keep every piece beautiful, and a note on every stone we use.

Care by piece

Tap a piece for the do, the don't, and what to do if something goes wrong.

Elastic bracelets and ankletsRoll it on. Lotion first. Off for showers and sleep.
Do
- Roll it on and off over your hand, a few beads at a time.
- Lotion, perfume and sunscreen go on first. The bracelet goes on last.
- Rest it in a pouch overnight so the elastic is not stretched.
Don't
- Don't pull it over your knuckles. That is what wears the cord out.
- Don't shower, swim, sleep or work out in it.
If the cord snaps
- Your order includes a repair cord. Restringing takes ten minutes: how to restring your bracelet.
Necklaces and pendantsWipe it dry, hang it up, keep it out of water.
Do
- Wipe the stone and chain with a soft dry cloth after wearing.
- Hang it or lay it flat so the cord does not kink.
- Check the cap on a raw stone now and then. Wire settings can loosen.
Don't
- Don't sleep, shower or swim in it.
- Don't let a raw point knock against hard surfaces. Points chip.
If something loosens
- A loose cap takes a drop of clear jewelry glue, dried overnight.
- Damaged on arrival: a photo to support@consciousitems.com within 30 days.
Rings and earringsAdjust gently. Off before your hands get wet.
Do
- Adjust a ring by squeezing a little at a time, with the stone facing you.
- Take rings off before washing your hands, cooking and cleaning.
- Wipe earrings dry and store them in their own pouch.
Don't
- Don't open and close an adjustable band over and over. Metal fatigues.
- Don't get earrings wet. Water dulls the finish and loosens the setting.
- Don't use jewelry cleaner or an ultrasonic cleaner on plated metal.
The metalsGold plating, platinum finish, steel and copper.
- 18K gold plating on spacer beads and charms. Keep it dry and away from perfume. Plating is thin by nature and wears with friction.
- Platinum finish over brass on rings. Wipe dry. A soft polishing cloth brings back the shine.
- Stainless steel logo tags. Rinse and dry.
- Copper beads and tree branches. Copper darkens with air and may leave a faint mark on skin. Both are natural. Lemon juice on a soft cloth brightens it.
Crystal lampsDust with a brush. Never rinse. Out of direct sun.
Do
- Dust the crystals with a soft dry brush. A makeup brush works.
- Lift it by the base, never by the crystals.
- Keep it out of direct sun and steamy bathrooms.
Don't
- Don't rinse or spray it. Selenite dissolves and the wooden base swells.
If the light stops
- Try another USB cable and adapter first. Most dead lamps are a dead charger.
- Remote not responding: new coin battery.
- Still dark: a photo to support@consciousitems.com within 30 days of delivery.
Crystal treesShape slowly, keep dry, off the sunny sill.
Do
- Shape the branches slowly, a little at a time, holding close to the trunk.
- Dust with a soft brush or a gentle puff of air.
Don't
- Don't bend the same branch back and forth. Copper snaps after a few bends.
- Don't get it wet. Water tarnishes the wire and dulls the chips.
- Don't leave it on a sunny sill. Amethyst and citrine chips fade.
Points, hearts, pyramids and clustersDust dry. Check the stone's flags before any water.
Do
- Dust with a dry cloth. Look the stone up in the index below before any water.
- Set it on a cloth or a dish so it does not scratch the surface beneath.
Don't
- Don't drop it. Points chip at the tip, clusters shed crystals, obsidian cracks.
- Don't leave a clear quartz point on paper in direct sun. It can focus light like a lens.
Sets and tumbled stonesSoft stones apart from hard ones. Pouch kept dry.
Do
- Store soft stones apart from hard ones. Selenite, malachite, calcite and fluorite scratch against quartz and agate.
- Keep the pouch dry. One damp stone dulls the rest.
Don't
- Don't rinse the whole set together. Some of them must stay dry.
- Don't leave them in a hot car. Heat cracks fluorite and fades amethyst.

Cleansing

Cleanse a new piece when it arrives and whenever it feels heavy. Pick a method the stone can take.

Safe for every stoneMoonlight, selenite, sound, smoke, rice, breath.
- Moonlight. On a windowsill overnight, full moon or not.
- Selenite. Rest it on a selenite lamp or slab overnight.
- Sound. A bell, a singing bowl or a song you love, for a minute.
- Smoke. Pass it through sage, palo santo or incense smoke.
- Rice. Bury it in dry rice overnight. Throw the rice away after.
- Breath. Hold it, breathe out slowly, say what you want it to hold.
Water-safe stones onlyRunning water, salt, an hour of morning sun.
- Running water. A short rinse under the tap, then dry at once.
- Salt. Dry salt or salt water, a few hours at most, then rinse and dry.
- Sun. An hour of morning light. Longer fades amethyst, rose quartz, citrine, fluorite and kunzite.
