Australian Gemstones Original Locations

There are dozens of areas to explore in Australia when it comes to finding gemstones. Here are some of the most famous:

Coober Pedy

Located in South Australia, Coober Pedy is where you go for the best Australian Opal.

Northern New South Wales

This is one of the two main sources for Australian Sapphire (the other being central Queensland). You can also find Zircon and Diamond in some areas of this region.

Western Australia

For Diamonds, the Argyle mine in Western Australia is your go-to spot. While its production numbers have declined in recent years, it remains one of the world's largest diamond mines.

Queensland

This is where you want to go if you're looking for Zircon and Chrysoberyl. It's also home to several other gemstones such as Topaz, Citrine, and Tourmaline.
